چکیده

Let F be a finite field, and 4: F* + E a surjective group homomorphism from the multiplicative group F* of F to a non-trivial abelian group E. A theorem of McConnel (Acta Arith. 8 (1963) 127-151) describes the permutations e of F with the property that d(ux uy) = d(x y) for all X, j’ E F, .Y #J. We give a short proof of this theorem, based on an argument of Bruen and Levinger (Canad. J. Math. 25 (1973), 1060-1065). In addition, we describe the permutations c of F for which there exists a permutation K of E with the property that &U-X q) = K&X 4’) for all X, ~2 E F, x # y. Finally, we prove a result about automorphisms of the norm form of an arbitrary finite extension of fields. ,(’ 1990 Academic PI~SS, IW

A Note on Absolute Central Automorphisms of Finite $p$-Groups

Let $G$ be a finite group. The automorphism $sigma$ of a group $G$ is said to be an absolute central automorphism, if for all $xin G$, $x^{-1}x^{sigma}in L(G)$, where $L(G)$ be the absolute centre of $G$. In this paper, we study  some properties of absolute central automorphisms of a given finite $p$-group.

ON ABSOLUTE CENTRAL AUTOMORPHISMS FIXING THE CENTER ELEMENTWISE

Let G be a finite p-group and let Aut_l(G) be the group of absolute central automorphisms of G. In this paper we give necessary and sufficient condition on G such that each absolute central automorphism of G fixes the centre element-wise. Also we classify all groups of orders p^3 and p^4 whose absolute central automorphisms fix the centre element-wise.

On equality of absolute central and class preserving automorphisms of finite $p$-groups

Let $G$ be a finite non-abelian $p$-group and $L(G)$ denotes the absolute center of $G$. Also, let $Aut^{L}(G)$ and $Aut_c(G)$ denote the group of all absolute central and the class preserving automorphisms of $G$, respectively. In this paper, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for $G$ such that $Aut_c(G)=Aut^{L}(G)$. We also characterize all finite non-abelian $p$-groups of order $p^...

On Permutations Induced by Tame Automorphisms over Finite Fields

The present paper deals with permutations induced by tame automorphisms over finite fields. The first main result is a formula for determining the sign of the permutation induced by a given elementary automorphism over a finite field. The second main result is a formula for determining the sign of the permutation induced by a given affine automorphism over a finite field. We also give a combini...

Varieties without extra automorphisms III: hypersurfaces

For any field k and integers n ≥ 1, d ≥ 3, with (n, d) not equal to (1, 3) or (2, 4), we exhibit a smooth hypersurface X over k of degree d in Pn+1 such that X has no non-trivial automorphisms over k. For (n, d) = (2, 4), we find X such that X has no non-trivial automorphisms induced by an automorphism of the ambient Pn+1.

On the number of rational points on curves over finite fields with many automorphisms

Using Weil descent, we give bounds for the number of rational points on two families of curves over finite fields with a large abelian group of automorphisms: Artin-Schreier curves of the form y−y = f(x) with f ∈ Fqr [x], on which the additive group Fq acts, and Kummer curves of the form y q−1 e = f(x), which have an action of the multiplicative group Fq . In both cases we can remove a √ q fact...
